We're opening our doors to the public at our new venue in Lewisham on Friday 14 February at 11am.

We'll be staging a series of exhibitions, events and education workshops throughout 2020 from our new home in in the heart of a busy shopping centre in one of London's most dynamic and diverse boroughs. 

Our new home in Lewisham is more than twice the size of our previous venue in Lambeth, enabling us to stage multiple exhibitions, as well as having a dedicated education and event space and an enlarged shop.

Highlights of our programme, as well as information on how to book an education visit, are below.

Room to Breathe
14 Feb–Autumn 2020
Free admission

We're restaging our acclaimed immersive exhibition, inviting visitors to explore a series of rooms in which hundreds of personal stories from generations of new arrivals to Britain are brought to life in creative and unexpected ways.
 
Humanæ
14 Feb–31 May 2020
Free admission

An ongoing project by artist Angélica Dass documenting every human skin tone through portrait photographs, inviting us to reflect on and rethink our identities and what we have in common.
 
Departures
Opening April 2020

Our new exhibition exploring 400 years of British emigration through personal narratives, contemporary art and a range of media. Departures will encourage visitors to connect with this crucial aspect of Britain’s migration story and reflect on the connections between immigration and emigration. More details to be announced soon.

Stand-Up Comedy: No Direction Home – with special guests

Join us for an evening of hilarious comedy with No Direction Home, a collective of stand-up comics from refugee and migrant backgrounds, hosted by Tom Parry, and with performances from special guest comedian Charlie George and others.
 
Flesh Colour – Art Workshop with Angélica Dass
Saturday 22 February 2020, 2.30–4pm

An workshop led by Humanæ artist Angélica Dass inviting participants to deconstruct stereotypical associations between certain colours and racial and ethnic groups. This workshop is free and open to all, with a focus on educators who are interested in leading this workshop themselves in schools and for groups.
 
Education
Education visits and workshops

Our education team facilitates exploration of our exhibitions and engages students in discussions on key themes including immigration, identity, home and belonging.
 
Our facilitated school and university workshops last approximately two hours and are available Wednesday–Sunday for students in years 6–13, as well as university groups. Education groups are also welcome to arrange self-directed visits to our museum during exhibition opening hours (Wednesday–Sunday, 11am–5pm).
